Rapids at Kaudiyala are Grade III rapids and Grade IV. These rapids are termed as 'difficult', as they feature serious obstacles to rafters sailing along. Irregular waves, rocks and many highs await you along this white water stretch of River Ganges. The passage is clear but narrow bringing challenges for adventurers while they navigate the Ganga river rapids. An excellent example of these rapids is 'The Wall', where 9 out of every 10 raft boats flip over.


A rafting expedition from Kaudiyala till Lakshman Jhula in Rishikesh continues over a distance of 36 km. The total time taken to complete the expedition is around 8-9 hours, which also includes your wearing the raft gear including the life jacket, safety helmet and other essentials. Though, the approximate time taken to sail along is 7 hours.

Brahmpuri is the closet point from Rishikesh to set out on your first rafting tour. The river rapids of this section fall into Grade I. If you are going to have a taste of rafting adventure for the first time, it is recommended to choose this Ganga stretch, the closest from Rishikesh.

Marine Drive is the third starting point or the third closest point to begin on a rafting expedition from Rishikesh. It has gained worldwide popularity among 2nd time and 1st time young rafters from all parts of the world.

The river rapids that you get to raft along from Marine Drive are of the same class as those from Shivpuri (i.e. Grade I & Grade II). The difference is that you get to run a few extra rapids. The difficulty level of these rapids is moderate and the passage is devoid of any serious obstacles.

The total distance you get to raft along from Marine Drive till Lakshman Jhula is 25 km. The time taken to complete this white water rafting expedition is 4.5 to 5 hours, which also includes the time spent in putting on the raft gear including life jacket, helmet and other essentials.

All these rapids have been categorized into different grades according to the international grading system. Different rapids suit different age groups and abilities. Shivpuri happens to be the second closest rafting point from Rishikesh.

Rafters arriving in Rishikesh should be well informed that Shivpuri is the second starting point for a white water rafting trip. If you are in doubt as to whether Shivpuri is the perfect starting point for your ability, you can also seek expert consultation from expert instructors.

According to the international grading system, the rapids at Shivpuri have been categorized into Grade I and Grade II. These grades are of medium or moderate difficulty. The passage along the Ganges in this section is clear. Adequate preparation is required to run the rapids of this class from Shivpuri.

White water rafting from Shivpuri gives you the opportunity to raft along a distance of 16 km, from Shivpuri to Laxman Jhula. The approximate time taken to run the rapids from here is 3 hours. Including the time spent to equip yourself with life jackets, helmets and other essential rafting gear, the total time taken will be around 3 hours to 3.5 hours.
